How spread out the customers are

These shares are by type of revenue, a Cityfort calculation from the FY2025 10-K; American names no customer as a concentration. Co-brand card and other partners paid American $6.2 billion in cash in 2025. That cash is not a revenue line: it feeds several lines over time.

04Why it makes money

Why does American Airlines make money?

American's profit is the thin gap between what each seat mile earns and what it costs.

A seat mile is one seat flown one mile. In FY2025, American earned 18.25 cents per seat mile and spent 17.76 cents. In Q3 FY2026 it earned 20.25 cents and spent 20.10 cents, as fuel rose to $3.85 a gallon.
