02The business in one line

What does DraftKings do?

Bettors and online casino players pay DraftKings what they lose after winnings and promotions; state gaming taxes and marketing take more than half of that, and FY2025 net income was $3.7 million on $6,054.5 million of revenue.

  • Sports betting brought in 63.2% of DraftKings' FY2025 revenue and online casino games 29.8%; fantasy sports, lottery and other products brought in the other 7.0%.
  • DraftKings lost money every year from FY2021 to FY2024 and had net income of $3.7 million in FY2025. It lost $468.7 million in Q3 FY2026 as marketing for its new Predictions product rose.

04Why it makes money

Why does DraftKings make money?

DraftKings keeps a share of what customers bet, but states tax that share and marketing costs come first, so profit depends on revenue growing faster than marketing

Revenue grew from $1,296.0 million in FY2021 to $6,054.5 million in FY2025, while sales and marketing grew from $981.5 million to $1,379.9 million. The operating loss shrank from $1,561.6 million to $15.8 million. Gaming taxes rose with revenue, to $2,110.6 million in FY2025.

FY2021 to FY2025

  1. Customers deposit money and bet or play on the app
  2. DraftKings keeps what they lose after winnings and promotions
  3. States take gaming taxes, about $35 of every $100 of revenue
  4. Marketing and promotions win and keep paying customers
  5. Each new state adds customers to the same app
  6. Revenue growing faster than marketing leaves more as operating profit
