02The business in one line

What does Amgen do?

Wholesalers and health systems pay Amgen for its medicines; most of the money goes on making them, research and selling, and what is left is profit.

  • US product sales were $25.7 billion in FY2025, 73% of product sales. Three US wholesalers together took 77% of worldwide gross revenues.
  • The largest drug, Prolia, was 12.6% of FY2025 product sales. Prolia and XGEVA now face copies, and fell 45% and 47% in Q3 FY2026.

04Why it makes money

Why does Amgen make money?

Patented medicines sell for far more than they cost to make, but each patent ends, so Amgen must replace its older sellers in time.

Amgen's operating income was $24.7 per $100 of FY2025 revenue. ENBREL fell from $4.5 billion in FY2021 to $2.2 billion in FY2025, and Prolia and XGEVA now face copies. Repatha, EVENITY and the Horizon drugs grew over the same years.
