10-K scavenger hunt

You and your team will hunt for ten facts in a real company report. For each fact, you write where you found it.

For learning only. Cityfort is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer and does not recommend buying or selling any security. Prices shown are dated and may be out of date.

What to do

  1. Write the fact, then the Item and page. Example: "Nike's main offices are in Beaverton, Oregon (cover page)."

What is a 10-K?

A 10-K is a company's yearly report to the SEC. The SEC is the US government agency that oversees the stock market.

Most US public companies must file a 10-K every year. Anyone can read it for free.

Every 10-K is split into numbered parts called Items. Item 1 always describes the business. Item 8 always holds the financial statements.

How do I open Nike's 10-K?

Open this link: Nike's 10-K for the year ended May 31, 2026 (sec.gov): https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320187/000032018726000088/nke-20260531.htm. It is a long page, so wait a few seconds.

If the link does not open, ask your teacher for the printed excerpt pack. It has every page you need.

How do I find a page number?

Look at the bottom of each page. You will see "2026 FORM 10-K" and then the page number.

The cover page and the table of contents have no page number. If your answer is there, write "cover page" or "table of contents."

Tip: the table of contents lists every Item with its first page. You can click an Item to jump to it.

Team jobs

Teams of three: the Reader is also the Checker.

  • Navigator: scrolls and searches the report.
  • Reader: reads each clue out loud and reads the text you find.
  • Recorder: writes the answers on the worksheet.
  • Checker: checks every Item and page before you move on.

Two rules for this hunt

This is a hunt for facts in a document. Nobody is asked to judge Nike or its stock.

  • Write what the report says. Use its words when the clue asks you to copy.
  • Risk factors are Nike's own list of things that could hurt its business. Copy them; you don't need to judge them.

Questions

  1. On what date did the year covered by this 10-K end?
  2. Item 1 starts with a "General" section. Copy the sentence that says what Nike's principal business activity is.
  3. Who makes nearly all of Nike's products?
  4. Nike reports its results in parts called segments. Name all five.
  5. In fiscal 2026, factories in which country made the largest share of Nike Brand footwear? About what percent?
  6. Item 1 has a section called "Competition." Name any two companies it lists.
  7. How many employees did Nike have, and on what date?
  8. Item 1A lists risk factors. Copy one risk-factor heading word for word.
  9. Which Item holds the financial statements? On what page is the "Consolidated Statements of Income"?
  10. On that statement, what were Nike's revenues and net income for fiscal 2026? Include the units.
  11. Bonus: In what year and in what state was Nike incorporated?
