Cityfort for Teachers

About Cityfort for Teachers: for administrators and reviewers

Cityfort for Teachers is a free unit of high school lessons on how real companies make money. No trading, no picking stocks, no accounts.

For learning only. Cityfort is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer and does not recommend buying or selling any security. Prices shown are dated and may be out of date.

Students never log in, and Cityfort collects no personal information about them. This page covers who makes it, student privacy, accessibility, the license and how to reach us.

What is it?

  • Four 50-minute lessons and an optional capstone project for grades 9–12.
  • Built on companies' SEC filings, mostly Form 10-Ks. Every number shows its period and source.
  • It teaches business and filings literacy: what a company sells, where its money goes and how it reports results.
  • No lesson asks students to pick, rank or value a stock, and nothing in it is investment advice.
  • Free, with no paid edition.

Who makes it?

Cityfort is made by Hardik Bhandare, who has worked as an equity research analyst. Cityfort explains how US-listed companies make money, using their SEC filings.

His method: "I decide what to cover and approve every page; every number is checked against the filing it came from." About the author · How we check every number

Cityfort is not paid by any company it covers. It is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer.

What happens to student data?

No personal information about students. Student pages have no logins, forms, ads or tracking cookies.

An anonymous page counter. It uses no cookies and stores no IP address. Its visitor code changes daily, and once that day's value is deleted, the code can't be linked to a person or another day's visits. It counts:

  • pages viewed and the site a visitor came from;
  • campaign tags in links, such as those on the worksheet QR codes;
  • searches on the site;
  • device type, operating system and browser;
  • approximate country and region;
  • how far a page is scrolled, and clicks on links such as file downloads.

It doesn't run when a browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

Our host. Cloudflare receives IP addresses to deliver pages, as any web host does.

Teacher pages. No Google Analytics, no cookie banner and no third-party scripts. No ads on these pages. The only form is an optional email sign-up for teachers on the main /teachers page. It uses double opt-in, and every email has an unsubscribe link.

No student records. We never ask for student work, rosters, grades or names. Students hand their work to their teacher, not to us.

Age. The lessons are made for grades 9–12. They are not designed for children under 13.

School-service limits. On /teachers we follow the limits California's student privacy law (SOPIPA) sets for school services. That means no targeted ads, no profiles of students and no selling of student information.

Links to the main site. Optional links to company pages lead to the main site. Ads and Google Analytics can load there, but only after a visitor accepts cookies. No lesson step needs those pages.

Full details are in our privacy policy.

Is it accessible?

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA on these web pages and in the PDF files.

  • Receipts and data tables are real tables, not pictures.
  • PDFs are tagged, with real text, a document title and a set language.
  • Every slide has a title. Visuals have alt text, and their data is also in a table or the speaker notes.
  • Worksheets print in black and white. For large print, enlarge any worksheet when printing (tabloid paper works well), or zoom in on screen.

Need another format? Ask through the contact page, and we'll send one.

Can I copy and adapt the lessons?

The lesson text, worksheets, answer keys and slides are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).

  • You may copy and share them in any medium or format.
  • You may adapt them: remix, change and build on them.
  • You must credit Cityfort, link to the license and say if you made changes.
  • You may not use them for commercial purposes, which includes selling them.

Suggested credit line:

"How real companies make money" by Cityfort (cityfort.co/teachers/how-companies-make-money), CC BY-NC 4.0. Data from each company's SEC filings, as dated in each lesson.

Changed versions. If you change a lesson, please remove the Cityfort name or mark it as modified. Changed versions are not reviewed by Cityfort.

Not covered by our license: SEC filing text, company names and trademarks, and quoted standards. Each keeps its own terms. The Cityfort name and logo are not covered either; the share kit explains how to use the logo.

Company names are trademarks of their owners; Cityfort is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. The lessons use company names only, never company logos.

How are the lessons checked?

Every company number comes from an SEC filing (mostly a Form 10-K), through its published cityfort.co page. One Lesson 3 count comes from a Form 10-Q, and the capstone's Starbucks card comes from its fiscal 2026 earnings release (Form 8-K). In Lesson 4 students read the 10-K itself. Each page is checked against the filing it came from. Before release, each lesson is checked the same way, and against our education-only rules.

Those rules mean no advice, no rankings and no price predictions. When we fix a mistake, the lesson's version number goes up and its "What changed" box says what changed.

How do I contact Cityfort?
